Bear Watching with Jamie’s

Tofino Bear Watching

Tofino’s Bear Watching Season runs from April 1st until the end of October!

Whether we are exploring in our open zodiac or from the comfort of our covered-panoramic view cruiser, the Stellar Sea, it’s easy to provide an enjoyable experience in the serene inlet waters of Clayoquot Sound in search of the distinguished Black Bear!

Our covered-panoramic view cruiser was specially designed for viewing bears out here. It is equipped with large panoramic windows that fully open, as well as a thoughtfully designed seating layout, offering great views for everyone on board.  The Stellar Sea has indoor heated seating keeping you warm for the ride to and from the bears’ habitat. This is our regular Bear Watching vessel from Tofino and it offers a something for everyone!

Departing daily at low tide, we travel through Browning Pass to the rocky coastline of Fortune Channel as the bears roam out of the rain forest and onto the shores to forage for food. Abundant in Clayoquot Sound, Black Bears are often seen with their cubs, turning massive rocks in search of Rock Crabs and clams. Cruising through these scenic passageways allows for many opportunities to view other wildlife like herons, eagles, harbour seals and porpoises in their natural habitat. All the while, our informative and personable crew will keep you entertained with interesting and fun facts about wildlife and the surrounding area. Tours from beginning of April until end of October.

Return back to the office and warm up with a complimentary coffee, tea or hot chocolate, the perfect opportunity to show off your photos and share your experience!

Ucluelet Bear Watching

**Please read our Zodiac Warning at the bottom of this page before making a reservation**

Ucluelet’s Bear Watching Season runs from May 1 until the end of September.

For those looking for an exciting adventure in search of the notable Black Bear, join us on one of our fast-paced zodiac tours on the coastal waters of Barkley Sound!

We make sure that you’re fully equipped for the ride before hopping on-board one of our adventurous 12 passenger open boats with full-body flotation suits that are designed to protect you from the cold. We have a large selection of flotation suits and can accommodate passengers of varying ages and size. With tours that are 2-3 hours long, we go out once a day, at low-tide.

Every day at low-tide, Black Bears can be seen wandering out of the temperate rain forest and onto the rocky shores of Barkley Sound to forage for food. This natural behaviour provides an excellent opportunity to view Black Bears, often seen with their cubs, turning massive rocks in search of Rock Crabs and clams. Traveling along the stunning shoreline of the Sound provides a chance to see sea lions, seals, herons, eagles and lots of other wildlife in their natural environment. Along the way, our informative and personable skipper will keep you entertained with interesting and fun facts about the area’s diverse ecosystems and unique history.

Return back to the office and warm up with a complimentary coffee, tea or hot chocolate, the perfect opportunity to show off your photos and share your experience!
