Subtidal Adventures

Subtidal Adventures is Ucluelet’s original and most respected wildlife tour company. We operate 2 boats; the first is our lady of the seas, the 11 metre (36 foot) “Dixie IV,” a former Canadian Coast Guard search and rescue vessel. Originally built in 1950, this refitted wooden marvel with indoor seating and outdoor viewing deck offers a wonderfully leisurely trip and is ideally suited to our many scenic tours. “The Dixie 4” operates from April to November.  We also operate “The Discovery,” an 8 metre (27 foot) rigid inflatable Zodiac that moves fast through the water, yet is extremely safe and reliable.  This safety and reliability is a major reason why this type of craft is the boat of choice for coast guard operations across the planet.

At Subtidal Adventures, our whale watching and wildlife tours will feature Humpback whales or Gray whales (Orca (Killer Whales) are less predictable), Steller and California sea lions,  seals, sea otter, river otter, deer, the reclusive wolf and black bear, eagles, and a grand assortment of sea and shorebirds.

Although both boats do whale watching February to April, the “Discovery” is our main whale boat through to November with the “Dixie IV” doing mainly bear tours and our Islands and Sea Things tour May to October. During the winter we offer our scenic Island or Harbour Sunset tour that will get you up close and personal with one of the most spectacular sunsets seen anywhere on the planet.
